Dog Friendly Hotels in South Wiltshire
The Editor Says: There’s something about the Wiltshire countryside that’s right up my canine alley, and there’s plenty to keep the owners amused, too. In fact, we’re welcome at lots of heritage sites in the area such as Figsbury Ring and Pepperbox Hill (both National Trust), and Old Sarum and Old Wardour Castle (both English Heritage). Admittedly we need to be kept on pesky leads at the latter, but that’s better than being sat at home doing beggar all. And if you’re in Salisbury itself then there are several parks to mooch around.
The White Hart, Salisbury
With former patrons such as Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy, the White Hart is undoubtedly one of the most legendary places to stay in Wiltshire. Rightly Grade II * listed, it features over 60 guest bedrooms and offers 4 star rated accommodation.
Paws Policy: Canine guests are welcome to stay with their owners for the supplementary charge of £10 per dog per night, subject to availability.

Grasmere House, Salisbury
On the banks of the River Avon and Nadder, Grasmere House is a Victorian residence that offers 3 star rated accommodation. Featuring 38 bedrooms in all (including family rooms) the hotel is within walking distance of the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral.
Paws policy: Well behaved dogs are very welcome to stay at the Grasmere Hotel in any of the ground floor rooms. Some of the Superior Rooms have patio access directly out into the grounds, There is a supplementary charge of £15 per night, with dogs allowed throughout the hotel except for dining areas.

The Compasses Inn, Tisbury
Offering five guest bedrooms (accessed separately from the pub itself) The Compasses Inn is a pretty little property that dates back to the 1600’s at least. Tisbury itself is a remarkably historic village and is situated a little over 12 miles to the west of Salisbury itself.
Paws Policy: Nicely behaved dogs are welcome at the Compasses Inn and may stay for no extra charge.

The Crown Inn, Alvesdiston
A Grade II listed building which dates from the 17th century, The Crown is a beautiful thatched inn around 14 miles to the west of Salisbury. Dining is available in the bar.

The Royal Oak, Swallowcliffe
Dating from the 18th century, the Royal Oak combines history with contemporary styling to great effect. Salisbury is around 30 minutes away by car.

The Lamb Inn, Hindon
Brimming with history and chock-full of period features, the Lamb was once a coaching inn which served the busy London to the Westcountry route. It is unsurprisingly Grade II listed.
Paws Policy: Dogs are welcome in a select number of Boutique Double or Twin rooms (subject to availability). There is a charge for four-pawed travellers of £20.

Howard’s House Hotel, Teffont Magna
The recipient of some extremely favourable guest reviews, this off-the-beaten-track hotel is set amid some splendid Wiltshire countryside. It possesses nine en suite guest bedrooms and its own restaurant.
Paws policy: Dogs are welcome for the additional charge of £15 per night. They are not permitted in the Dining Room or Coach House.
