The Editor Says: If leisurely strolls by the sea are your bag (and they’re certainly mine, but without the “leisurely” bit) then North Devon is a really belting destination (don’t forget to see our section on Exmoor, too).  In fact, the Bucks Mills route which passes the Hoops Inn, below, is reckoned to be one of the best dog walks in the South West of England. And in an area chock full of great places to mooch with a pooch, that’s saying something. Also worth saying is that my mum fed me some egg for lunch and I’ve got to leave the computer for a few minutes...

Brimming with history and period charm, The Hoops Inn at Horns Cross is a 3 star rated hotel featuring 13 guest rooms. Bideford is just a few miles away to the east. Paws Policy: Dogs are most welcome in the Standard Coach House rooms for the additional charge of £7.50 per night. They are permitted in the Snug bar during the daytime, but not public areas. The Hoops has an adjacent paddock area where dogs can be exercised.

Within reasonable driving distance of both Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks, the 16th century Half Moon is ideally located for those seeking to explore as much of Devon as possible during their stay. Said to date back, in parts, to the 17th century, the West Country Inn is located on the North Devon Atlantic Highway between Bideford and Bude in Cornwall. Paws Policy: Accepts well behaved dogs at a rate of £12.00. No further information available at time of writing.
