Dog Friendly Hotels in St Austell and Fowey
The Editor Says: There are a fair few cracking beaches that doggies can dig up and snuffle around all year in the St. Austell and Fowey area: Par Sands, Porthluney Cove, and Polridmouth Cove to name but a few. And, of course, pretty much all of them don’t mind hounds, mutts and pooches out of season. What’s more, dogs are now allowed at popular attractions such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan and outdoors at Caerhays. Anyway, it’s not as if you can’t just get in the car and reach most of Cornwall for a day out from this neck of the woods. You really can!
Old Ferry Inn, Fowey
“Steeped in history” is a cliche, but it certainly sums up this characterful old inn which can boast links to Daphne du Maurier. Situated in Bodinnick (which is to be found on the opposite bank to Fowey itself), The Old Ferry Inn offers 12 guest bedrooms, a restaurant, and a traditional bar with bagloads of period charm.

Fowey Hall Hotel, Fowey
Some say that Fowey Hall was the inspiration for Toad Hall in the famous children’s book Wind in the Willows. Whatever the truth, it’s certainly one of the most child friendly places to stay in Cornwall.
Paws Policy: Up to 2 well behaved dogs in the Main House rooms at £15.00 per dog per night. Pets are not allowed in the dining areas, and should be kept on a lead when in public rooms and the hotel grounds.

The Crown Inn, Lanlivery
Reputedly one of the oldest pubs in Cornwall, the Crown will no doubt suit those looking to stay ‘off the beaten track’. Located to the north of Fowey and within 5 miles of the SW Coast Path.
Paws policy: Well-behaved dogs are very welcome and the inn is able to accommodate them in most of their rooms at no extra charge (although any which require additional cleaning will). They are allowed in public areas where there are slated floors, and also in the garden on a lead.

Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate, St. Austell
Set amid over 40 acres of its own parkland, The Cornwall Hotel Spa & Estate includes four star rated hotel accommodation, an award winning restaurant (The Arboretum), and a spa which includes an infinity pool. Located in Tregorrick and just to the south of St. Austell, the coast is less than two miles away.

The Waterwheel, St. Austell
This cosy little bed and breakfast dates back to 1784 when it was originally built for the tin smelting process. Today it offers accommodation via 8 guest rooms to those seeking to explore this particular part of mid Cornwall, and also features its own restaurant. St. Austell itself is easily reached in little more than 10 minutes on foot.

The Pier House, Charlestown
Overlooking the little harbour recently featured in numerous episodes of Poldark, Charlestown’s Pier House offers accommodation within a landmark 18th century building.
Paws Policy: A maximum of two well-behaved furry travellers (non-human type) per room at £10.00 per hound per night. Limited availability, so advance requests important (as always).

The White Hart, St. Austell
A St. Austell landmark, this Grade-II listed building dates from the early 19th century (former guests include Edward VII). Dining is available in the bar or in ‘White’s’ restaurant.

Trevalsa Court, Mevagissey
Mevagissey harbour is just a ten minute walk away down the coast path from Trevalsa Court: a boutique hotel that also boasts some lovely period features.
Paws policy: Dogs are welcome in selected rooms by arrangement. They are not allowed in public rooms and must not be left alone in bedrooms. A housekeeping charge per dog per night applies.
